Preparing to rivet the mudring

Preparing to rivet the mudring

Saturday, March 27, 2010 by MC

This is a series of photos showing the preparation necessary prior to riveting the mudring in place. The rivets need to be flush on the inside in order that firebrick can be fitted against the wall. This requires the heads be countersunk. We have had to build some tools, including the cutter for the countersink, and an "old man" to hold it in place to make the cut. We have also spent a lot of time building a hydraulic riveter - a big clamp to squeeze the rivets in place as they will be too long to hammer in by hand.
