The Riveter wasn't big enough
The Hydralic Riveter with added plates to strengthen it after it failed during preliminary tests. Compare this image with the previous one.

The Riveter wasn't big enough

Saturday, August 7, 2010 by MC

Shortly after completing the Hydraulic Riveter we put it to the test forming rivets in the mudring. After just a couple of rivets the clamp began to deform. The steel in the "C" portion of the riveter was showing radial stress marks and the tool was bending. A friend ran an analysis of our tool and showed us how much material we needed to add to prevent this failure. As a result we significantly increased the width of the plates around the curve of the "c" on the end opposite the hydraulic cylinder. Note how the new plates protrude significantly below the level of the previous plates.
