Fabricating Downpipes

There are two 6-inch diameter pipes that connect the superheater manifold in the top of the smoke box to the valve steam chest at each cylinder. These are not an off-the-shelf item and so we fabricated them to fit. This involved many steps from turning,fitting and lapping the flanges and steam seals to cutting and fitting sections of pipe before welding all of the pieces together.
